I am so happy that we were able to pull it through on the 25th of June World Vitiligo Day (WVD). We have been challenged seriously financially and otherwise for a few years now, but it got really tough. Severally I was asked our plans for WVD 2015 and I kept saying we will do something on that day. I was so sure of it, but couldn’t really figure out what will work as we really didn’t have funds. I had discussed with a colleague in the NGO World from the Northern part of Nigeria on possibility of collaborating with his organization to make that happen, also discussed with a few friends and our Coordinator Vitiligo Support Abuja, but none came to anything fruitful
I was on my way back home the very first International Dermatology Patient Organisation Conference thought of going to my Alma matter to educate the students and teachers about Vitiligo truck me. I called my father who is my number 1 volunteer and he went to speak with the principal of the school and the rest is history.

It was really a great day at my Alma matter National Secondary School, Nnewi. I felt bad that despite the fact that my Alma matter is just by my Father’s house, I hardly entered there in the last years, really glad that Vitiligo awareness for WVD took me in there again after such a long time. I must commend the great work in renovations and new building going there and majority by individual. I just wished that I could just donate to the great work going on there as alumni especially as the Principal took me through the journey. I hope to be able to do so someday soon

I had great time chatting, talking, enlightening and educating the whole students in attendance that day, all teachers in School that day were out for the program, and the School Principal Engr. Anoliefo insisted that everybody must be out. The students gave me their full attention, asked question and participated fully from the beginning of it till end. Our major discussion was on Vitiligo, then we talked healthy living and most of all Self-acceptance (very interesting part for the students and surprisingly the teachers also). The students proudly wrote down all they learnt and displayed it for all to see. Please see much more of the events in pictures below.

Who says again that discussing Vitiligo can be boring? Again to one of my most beautiful quotes, ‘Life is what you make of it’.
